Rafflesia,Henry Darger,Kobayashi Takeru

Im going to start with Henry Darger, and he is my choice for inspiring visual artist.Henry Darger was raised catholic and developed a strong fear of god and authority. He lived his adult life as a recluse in an apartment by himself, while working as a custodian and attending mass regularly. After he had passed, his landlord found his apartment was filled with many paintings, drawings and collage work to accompany a 15,145 page single spaced fantasy novel he had written. His work is shown in the American Folk Art Museum of New York.
Next i found the Rafflesia flower to be interesting. It is the largest flower, and is an endoparasite, and carnivorous plant. The plant grows from within a host vine, and sends out a flower that lasts a week or two and eats insects who are lured into its mouth by the smell. The rafflesia flower stinks like rotting meat, and is sometimes called the corpse flower because of its smell. However that nickname is more commonly used for the titan arum which is not carnivorous and is the second largest flower. Without taking advantage of its environment, or causing other entities to die the rafflesia cannot live.
My third inspiration is Kobayashi Takeru. He is a competitive eater who makes his living doing eating competitions and promotion. Im interested in people who make their living doing something their body needs to do anyway. Kobayashi has a stomache that extends lower than average, allowing him to fit more food in it, this unique physical trait is also accompanied by an incredible metabolism due to his disciplined workout routine and build.

  1. This is quite fascinating Jared. From Henry Darger to Kobayayashi Takeru... plus rafflesia. From solitude to money making commercial business. Interesting..interesting.... can't wait for your proposal.
